Univan Maritime Training Academy, Kochi is a subsidiary of Univan Ship Management Ltd; Hong Kong. Univan Ship Management Ltd was established by Late Capt. C.A. Vanderperre in 1973, widely accepted as the founder father of Ship Management. Univan Maritime Training Academy was started in 1998 at Kochi with a vision to impart training on basic safety and familiarization courses to ship staff. The Univan Maritime Training academy imparts Basic STCW Courses and Tanker Familiarization courses approved by the DG shipping and IMO. The certificates are issued under the authority of Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of transport, Govt. Of India. The Institute is an ISO 9001:2008 organization certified by the accrediting agency RINA.

Location of Academy:

The Academy is situated right in the heart of the city, accessible from all parts of Kerala by all modes of transportation. The Cochin back waters with the Chinese net, cochin Shipyard, new container terminal , Cochin Marine drive etc are the scenic view from the Academy location. The main Shopping streets of Kochi - Shanmugham road and Broadway - are very close by. The FPFF courses are conducted in the NIFE Training ground in Pallikkara near Kakkanadu. The PST classes are conducted at the Swimming pool facilities of Merchant Navy Club, wellington Island.

A. Basic STCW Courses:

Mandatory for all seafarers including Junior officers planning to join Merchant Navy vessels and Oil rigs.

1. Personal safety & social Responsibility (PSSR)

Duration : 3 days starting on every Monday

2. Personal Survival Technique (PST)

Duration : 3 days starting on every Thursday

Location : Swimming Pool in Merchant Navy Club Near Island Police Station, Wellington Island, Kochi

3. Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FP FF)

Duration : 3 days starting on every Monday

Location : NIFE Training ground at Pallikkara Manakkakadavu Toll Jn, Ernakulam - Thodupuzha Route (via) Kakkanad / Vegaland .

4. Elementary First Aid (EFA)

Duration : 3 days starting on every Thursday

5. Package Course (PSSR + PST + FP FF + EFA)

Duration : 2 weeks starting on every Monday

Documents required : Proof of identification ( Passport/ SSLC book), 9 passport size photographs Registration for getting INDoS No. can be done at our office for a nominal charge.

6. Medical First Aid (MFA)

Duration : 4 days ( subject availability of minimum 5 candidates)

B. Tanker Familiarization Courses:

Mandatory for all seafarers including Junior Officers joining first time in a Oil / Chemical Tankers Entry Standard : candidates must have attended minimum EFA and FPFF courses

7. Oil tanker Familiarization Course (OTFC)

Duration : 5 days starting on all alternate Mondays

8. Chemical Tanker Familiarization Course ( CTFC)

Duration ; 5 days, starting on alternate Mondays

Location :Univan Maritime Training Academy, GCDA Shopping Complex, Marine Drive Menaka Bus Stop, Kochi

9. Package Course ( OTFC + CTFC)

Duration :10 days starting every Mondays

Documents Required : 2 Passport Photos , copies of : passport, EFA & FP FF Course certificates, CDC, COC, INDoS No.

C. Ship Security Familiarization Course (ISPS)

(A Non- DG Approved course for Seafarers )

Duration : 1 day (subject to availability of Candidates & on request)

Food & Accommodation :

Rs. 25/day is paid per day as food allowance to have food of their choice. Tea and snacks are provided during Tea-breaks. We will assist the candidates to get a reasonable accommodation at their own cost.

A well equipped library and reading rooms are available for the benefit of trainees and faculties.

Class Rooms:

All class Rooms are Air conditioned. LCD projectors are provided in the main 2 class rooms. OHP, TVs, Video and other demonstration equipments are provided in all class rooms. Candidates are provided with Boiler suits and gum boots for practical classes.
